What are A19 bulbs?

What are A19 Bulbs?

A-Shape ("Arbitrary") or general service bulbs, are likely the light bulb shapes we are all most familiar with. It's standard light bulb shape is so ubiquitous that this is likely the first form factor you think of when someone says "light bulb". A19 bulbs typically come in outputs ranging from 20 watts up to 100 Watts in their incandescent forms.

Incandescent A-Shape Ban

Back in January 2012, 100 Watt Incandescent A-Shape bulbs were no longer available for sale in retail stores. This phase-out continued until 40 watt bulbs were eventually phased out in January 2014.

A19 LED Replacements

There has been significant progress made over the past few years on developing and perfecting the A19 LED. With over 6 billion bulbs in service worldwide, the opportunity is enormous. We offer two primary types of A19 LED Light Bulbs, choosing the right type will ensure the best overall experience/performance: Directional LED A19 and Omni-Directional LED A19.

Downlight/Directional Type

Downlight/Directional Type

Directional bulbs are perfect for recessed cans or any place where a directional light source is desired. Their 180 Degree and below beam cut off is perfect for this application as no light is wasted. As a result, they can out-perform their omni-directional cousins with less lumens/power consumption. This greater efficiency however is sacrificed when they are used in a table lamp or floor lamp that takes advantage of an Omni-Directional beam.

Omni-Directional Type

Omni-Directional Type

Omni-Directional LED are the most recent innovation. Now these bulbs allow for the replacement of incandescent lamps with a similar if not identical beam pattern. Omni-Directional LED Bulbs are perfect for table lamps utilizing a lamp shade. However, they are not as effective as directional LED when installed in recessed cans.
