Reflector (R) or Bulged Reflector (BR) 30 LED bulbs have a reflective coating on the inside of the bulb that directs light forward. Flood types (FL) spread light. Spot types (SP) concentrate the light. Reflector (R) bulbs put approximately double the amount of light (foot-candles) on the front central area as General Service (A) of same wattage. Like all light bulbs, the 30 value represents the diameter of the bulb in 1⁄8 of an inch. Therefore, a R30 is 3.75 inches in diameter.
LED R/BR30 light bulbs are a direct replacement for incandescent and CFL reflector bulbs. The great thing about these LEDs is that their are multiple color temperatures available.
Since LEDs are naturally directional, they don't require the extra internal reflector like the older incandescent bulbs. That's why R/BR30 LED bulbs are frequently used in track lighting, recessed can lights, and even outdoor flood lights if they are rated for use in wet locations. Also, they provide a broad beam spread for wall washing and wall grazing techniques, making them incredibly popular for art galleries and museums.
